All of Zurich's insurance consultants undergo systematic training - the first step in giving our valued customers excellent professional service. The gradual Three Step Training Series, the intensive Project Genesis and Leadership and Management Programme attest to our commitment to professional training. Our professional consultants are also nurtured and trained in our Zurich Insurance Group (Hong Kong) Professional Development Centre, a well-equipped institute with an extensive library of reference materials.

Zurich sets a good example for the insurance industry in terms of special programmes co-organized with external institutes. Our consultants are constantly upgrading their skills and keeping themselves up-to-date by participating in various Continuing Professional Development Programmes and special topic training.

Also, our pioneering Sales Automation and Management System allows our consultants to accurately analyze our customers' individual protection and financial needs - further proof of Zurich's dedication to excellent service.

Systematic training

Zurich firmly believes that only the most knowledgeable and dedicated insurance consultants can provide our customers with top-of-the-line service.

Through systematic training with the Zurich Professional Development Programme (PDP) our insurance consultants gradually acquire new skills and knowledge in the insurance industry, insurance knowledge, professional ethics, as well as individual and professional development. Over the years we have added new elements to the PDP, including the implementation of internal licensing and transforming the courses into modular units. Apart from compulsory courses, we also provide electives so that our consultants can upgrade themselves in a more flexible way. Zurich is the one of the insurance company with a system of promotion that is pegged to training.

Three Step Training Series

  1. Fast Track Training Series: It is specifically designed for new consultants to acquire basic insurance knowledge as quickly as possible.
  2. Be A Trusted Advisor Training Series: Focuses on developing established consultants to become trusted advisors by introducing advanced insurance knowledge, state-of-the-art business development and customer relations management strategies.
  3. Excel In Management Training Series: Focuses on improving managers' performance and developing critical management skills in planning, recruiting, selecting agents, coaching, training, motivation, team building, communication, breakthrough thinking and changes management.

Project Genesis

Zurich has always been a pioneer in the industry in introducing new and innovative concepts. To transform our force of professional agents into a team of trusted advisors, we launched Project Peak in 2002 and Project Genesis in 2003. Following a Best Practice Model, we will develop our agents into professional advisors with whom our valued customers entrust their financial service needs.

Leadership and Management Programme

Zurich Insurance Group (Hong Kong) is renowned for professionalism and innovation and we have always taken a leading role in introducing new ideas to the insurance industry in Hong Kong. In 2003, we introduced Leadership and Management Program to better equip our managers to cope with the rapid changing business environment and intense competition in the financial services sector. In line with our growth strategy, we are going to strengthen our managers' recruitment and selection competencies.

In 2004, expanding our direct sales force is a strategic focus and this is achieved by the implementation of the Leadership and Management Program that aims at enhancing our managers' capability of recruiting and retaining talent. Our managers are going to receive a 42-week intensive and comprehensive development program. This program will take the forms of classroom training, one-on-one consultation and post course coaching. This is a very practical program in which managers will acquire ready-to-apply ideas and best practices.

The Leadership and Management Program comprises 7 modules: Selecting the Best, Recruiting the Best, Leadership and Management, Leadership for Productivity and Profitability, Managing A Client Bank, Serving A Client Bank and Increasing Selling Time. Each module is followed by extensive follow-up tasks that enable delegates to sink in learning and put what they have learned to practice. Armed with new ideas and techniques, our managers are going to business.

Special programmes co-organized with external institutes

To upgrade our courses, Zurich Insurance Group teams up with local universities and other professional organizations to offer training courses:

  • Sales management training, MPF advanced training and Executive MBA Programme co-organized with Lingnan University.
  • Investment knowledge and management skills training and Professional Diploma in Business Management co-organized with the Hong Kong Productivity Council.
  • MPF training co-organized with the Vocational Training Council.
  • Seminars on Corruption Prevention and Professional Ethics co-organized with the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
  • Certificate in Securities Dealings and Current Development on MPF System 2002 co-organized with the Hong Kong Securities Institute.
  • Seminar on "Equal Opportunities and the Insurance" co-organized with the Equal Opportunity Commission.
  • Seminar on Mood Disorders co-organized with the Hong Kong Mood Disorders Centre of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Continuing Professional Development Programmes

Most of the Zurich's professional training courses are recognized by the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation. After completing their courses, our consultants can accrue CPD credits with the Insurance Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong. At the same time, they can clock CPD hours with the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority.

Special topic training

In view of the intense competition in the Hong Kong insurance market, many insurance companies tailor make their products to meet clients' individual needs. As clients become more knowledgeable about insurance products, they expect insurance agents to have a thorough understanding on the solutions they offer. To cope with this change, we have organized several products training courses. The first one we have launched is "Motor Insurance" which covers product positioning, design, compliance, claim procedures and product comparison. We use a lot of case studies as the main learning methodology so as to make the course more interesting and practical. Participants can learn more about motor insurance in a shorter period of time.

Sales Automation and Management System

As the pioneer in making the insurance industry more professional, Zurich Insurance Group launched the Sales Automation and Management System (SAM) in 2000, an amalgamation of high technology and practical experience. SAM, designed by experienced experts with the active participation of insurance consultants, combines technology and modern management models to provide a comprehensive sales and management system for our insurance consultants and managers. With SAM they can accurately analyze their customers' individual insurance and financial needs and offer professional and customer-oriented solutions.

Zurich Insurance Group (Hong Kong) Professional Development Centre

Zurich has established its own Professional Development Centre to provide all-round support for our consultants' upgrading needs. The centre occupies an area of 10,000 square feet, has excellent facilities and provides a good learning environment. Classrooms of different sizes can be set up easily. There is also a well-equipped library of academic and self-help publications, as well as examination papers of accreditation courses for your reference.
