Beware of Scams
Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong) (“Zurich”) has identified fraudulent activities involving individuals impersonating staff of third-party platforms or our business partners and presenting Zurich’s official telephone numbers. These individuals attempt to deceive customers into accessing suspicious website links, with the intent of obtaining personal, credit card information and transfer money to unidentified accounts for fraudulent purposes.
Zurich confirms that it is not affiliated in any way with such fraudulent websites, social media accounts, or email communications. Customers should remain vigilant and exercise caution to avoid potential scams.
Important reminders:
- Zurich is a Registered SMS sender with the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) in Hong Kong. All SMS messages sent to Hong Kong mobile service users from Zurich will have a sender name beginning with "#".
Common Fraudulent Tactics:
- Requesting customers to input a “verification code” which is in fact a monetary transfer amount
- Using chatbots on fraudulent websites to generate counterfeit policy documents
- Providing Zurich’s official hotline number and claiming that follow-up contact will be made to cancel transactions, in order to gain customers’ trust
Cybersecurity Recommendation:
- Exercise caution when receiving messages or calls from non-official channels, including suspicious websites, mobile applications, emails, or unsolicited calls
- Use ‘Scameter’ to assess the risk level associated with websites and phone numbers
- Avoid clicking on unverified links or disclosing personal information under any circumstances
Immediate actions if you suspect fraud:
If you believe that you have disclosed your credit card, banking or other personal information via such websites, platforms or emails, conducted any suspicious insurance transactions, or received communications purporting to be from Zurich, please take the following actions immediately:
- Report the matter to the Police
- Notify the relevant regulatory authorities
